Ocean Colour Scene, Tim Booth and James, Jack Johnson, Oasis, The Bluetones, Coldplay, Radiohead, David Ford and Easyworld, The Verve, Paul Weller and The Jam, Kinks, Small Faces, Stereophonics,The Smiths, The Beatles, Feeder, Muse, The Killers etc etc etc
Cut To The Chase initially formed in 2004 with a few live appearances in the summer of 2005. After that summer the initial line up all went their seperate ways due to the fact that Gaz had to go back to London to finish his degree. In early 2006 the band announced a new line up. This line up consisted of a circle of four close friends instead of people recruited from far and wide. This proved to be a great step forward and advantage for the band. In the spring of 2006 the band started rehearsing as a whole and the band were satisfied that the new line up would work. Mark put his guitar on the back-burner and got himself a shiney new drum kit, Matt had enough being the sound engineer and decided to learn bass, Steve kept his guitar strapped on and sang vocals along with Gaz. Finally with Gaz finishing his degree, the band started to meet reguarly at their resident studio by the NEC in Birmingham. Riffs, bass lines, melodies and lyrics have all since been bounced off the studio walls trying to create an orginal sound, it's more of a workshop than a studio... bashing, joining and shaping all of these bits carefully into potential records. Old favourite songs of the band have been kept, but it was decided they needed to be improved. So these songs, No More Fatalities and Tomorrow's Verse were critised and reworked. No More Fatalities is one of Gaz's songs, it was initally put together in about half hour or so and then Steve added the main riff. It's a kind of chirpy song about being a teenager/young adult and how people may find it hard hence No More Fatalities. Tomorrow's Verse was written by Mark which again is one of the more upbeat and fun songs the band performs, fun in the sense the band have a great time performing it! Another song that has made the list is Self Destruction written by Gaz in the Spring 2006 whilst against the stresses of being in the final year of an Aerospace Engineering degree. This song was written specifically to start shows off with its steady but sure to the point melody line building up gradually to a more familiar style of chorus that would remind us of the style of the majority of songs from the band's arsenal.
The last part of 2006 will see the band in live venues and concert halls in and around the West Midlands testing out their style that they've so far created. Inevitably like anything new it will probably be in need of some refinement, which doesn't make the band nervous at all... in fact more excited than anything else - looking forward to the challenges that face new bands to make a good reputation for themselves, maybe a little naive perhaps. But this band has a strong beating heart and live to perform live, I'm pretty sure that they will not go down without a stiff fight... that's their story so far, stay tuned!
